Click-to-Run installer encountered a problem because of Windows Installer based Office Program
Today, when I try to install Microsoft Office 365 Home on my laptop, I got an error as “We're sorry, Office Click-to-Run installer encountered a problem because you have these Windows Installer based Office programs installed on your computer: Skype for business Basic 2016”.
My laptop already has Skype for Business basic 2016 installed by downloading MSI at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=49440, which is a Windows based installer. To resolve the above error, I have searched online and even contacted the Microsoft support team. Everywhere I got the response as you can’t install Click-to-Run Office installer on Windows Installer based Office programs. But I have Office 365 Home license, which is available only through Click-to-Run installer, and Skype for Business basic available only through Windows based installer.
After a lot of research, I finally resolved the issue and installed Office using Click-to-Run installer and Skype using Windows based installer by following the below steps. We need to run both Click-to-Run installer and Windows based installer in parallel.
1)Uninstall Skype for Business basic and other office installations.
2)Download Skype for Business Basic at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=49440 and Office 365 at https://www.office.com/. To download Office 365, log in using Microsoft 365 credentials => select Install Office, as shown below.
Again Select “Install Office” which opens the popup.
On the popup, select “Other options” as shown below.
Select the “Download an Offline installer” checkbox.
Click on the Download button to download the offline installer for Microsoft 365.
It downloads an image File which includes both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. Based on your requirements and system configuration, please select one of them.
3) Now, Run Microsoft 365 (Office 365) installer and Skype for Business Basic installer in parallel. First, start installing Office 365 and immediately start the installation of Skype for Business Basic. In this way, we can have both Click-to-Run installer and Windows based installer on the same machine.
